As a dedicated Bulls fan, I’ve sat around and waited for the windy city gang to be a relevant team in the NBA since 1998. Finally, the Bulls are back in the nation’s eye as a contender, finally; had to say it one more time.

The Bulls have went through bad trades, bad drafts and a list of coaches longer than the brattiest little kid’s Christmas wish novels…they have developed from lists.

Finally, one last time, they have made some moves and decisions to prove Chicago has a winning mindset instead of simply only being an organization in the NBA.

[picappgallerysingle id="10416168"]

It starts with Derrick Rose, who is a top MVP candidate and is leading the Bulls to the top of the Eastern Conference with a 21-10 record as he is eighth in the NBA in scoring and assists with 24 points and eight assists per game.

The Bulls have won 12 of their last 14 games and have done so in every aspect of the game from shooting, defense, managing turnovers and rebounding.

The above is a statement of gratitude to the Chicago Bulls front office for its will and completion of getting players and coaches the team needs to win.

Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons and Kirk Hinrich were all traded because they didn’t fit in the puzzle. Thomas had problems with authority and couldn’t put productive games back to back. Salmons played great at the end of the 2008-09 season when the Bulls traded for him at the deadline, but as last season went on he too became inconsistent and wasn’t reliable for anything except 12-to-15 shot attempts a game. Hinrich, one of my favorite Bulls, will be missed but he was overpaid and with Rose playing at the level he does, there was no longer a need for him on the team.

[picappgallerysingle id="10416171"]

The three of them were traded for expiring contracts which gave Chicago enough money to get the type of players they needed: an inside presence in Carlos Boozer, a shooter in Kyle Korver and perimeter defense in Ronnie Brewer and Keith Bogans.

Sure, the Bulls wanted to get one of the bigger names in the summer’s free agency circus but they didn’t land a LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh. Instead of giving up, they got an all-star caliber player in Boozer and continued to shop for role players to help the team to get out of the bottom of the playoff bracket.

The Chicago roster can not be spoken about without the mention of the two big men who put fear in opposing offenses.

Joakim Noah, who I was upset with the Bulls for drafting, has proved to the world he is a top center in the league. Noah is averaging a double-double for the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds a game and bothers every teams inside scorer with his great defense. I forgot to mention he is averaging two blocks a game.

During last year’s rookie season, Taj Gibson showed he could be a force on the court as he was a steal with the 26th pick in the 2009 draft. This season he is coming off the bench to score eight points and grab five rebounds game. But when Boozer missed 15 games because of a broken hand and Noah first had surgery on his thumb, he put up starter numbers in starter minutes including four double-doubles and has season highs of 18 points and 18 rebounds. He also averages a block and a half a game.

Last season’s coach Vinny Del Negro didn’t do anything for the Bulls except upset fans and players on the team. He led the squad to another 41-41 record and an early departure from the playoffs. He might not have had a championship roster but he didn’t play his cards right to win games when he had the chance to.

[picappgallerysingle id="10362734"]

With that said, the Bulls hired Boston Celtics assistant coach and defensive mastermind Tom Thibodeau to teach the Bulls how to play the game. Thankfully, it seems to be working out as Joakim Noah said he is learning more about the game than he ever has on the Bulls-Nets broadcast. Thibs has brought a defensive emphasis and cohesiveness to a team based around young players.

For the first time since the championship run with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson, the Bulls are towards the top of the conference and are being looked at as a contender. Chicago may not make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but they will make it past the first round and will give whichever team its playing a run for its money.

2010 has been successful for the Chicago Bulls and should be the gateway for a great 2011.

Two days ago, an ESPN writer graded foreign NBA players who played in the FIBA World Championship, including Bulls center Omer Asik. The good grades continue for Chicago’s future as ESPN graded the eastern conference team’s movement in the off-season.

[picappgallerysingle id="8238940"]

Chad Ford placed the Bulls as the fourth best team in summer roster management with a B-. His number one teams are dead on, but the Bulls should be number three.

Chicago was given a B+, after the Miami Heat an A+, Washington Wizards an A and the Indiana Pacers an A-. In all fairness, the other three teams did a great job of building their roster, but the Bulls deserve to be in the A range. The Pacers made moves, but not moves that will take them from the bottom to the top of the eastern conference such as Chicago has done.

[picappgallerysingle id="8085128"]

Indiana was part of a four team trade in which they released veteran forward Troy Murphy and signed much needed point guard Darren Collison. As a rookie last season, he led the New Orleans Hornets while Chris Paul was injured. The Pacers haven’t had a legitimate point guard in sometime, so great move, but other than that they didn’t do anything. James Posey is washed up, who is Paul George and Lance Stephenson is a second round draft pick who has potential to be a solid NBA player but could be a bust also.

The Bulls signed Carlos Boozer, a top free agent in one of the best free agent classes in NBA history. Then they signed three point marksmen Kyle Korver and defensive specialist Ronnie Brewer. Before the free agent market opened everyone from Chicago’s Sam Smith to ESPN’s Chris Ford and Chris Broussard said the Bulls need an inside scoring presence and shooters. They achieved these two goals and strengthened the defense with Brewer and hired a life long defensive assistant coach Tom Thibodeau as the head coach.

[picappgallerysingle id="9197677"]

How does a Collison, a second year guard, Roy Hibbert, and up and coming center and Danny Granger become a better starting lineup than Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah/ Luol Deng? The Pacers have a team for the future while the Bulls are building a team for the now and future. Chicago also made the cap room to sign players while Indiana simply made draft selections and one trade. The Bulls put more effort into building a better team. This is deserving of at least an A- spot.

Plus, I’d put other teams ahead of the Pacers such as the Milwaukee Bucks, who signed veteran leadership like Corey Maggette and resigned last year’s offering from the Bulls, John Salmons. The Bucks are the only team in the central division who will give the Bulls any kind of competition.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind the Miami Heat are the number one on this list. Team president Pat Riley picked up arguably the best player in the league and a legitimate top 15 guy in LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Oh, plus they resigned Dwyane Wade, one of the top five players in the NBA and the man who has kept Miami a playoff team despite not having any pieces around him.

John Wall brings the Washington Wizards from one of the worst teams in the NBA to at least a playoff bubble team. If they fail to play at a high level, at least he brings media coverage and a positive story to the Wizards who have been circled with controversy the last few years. Also, they got the best backup point guard in the league, Kirk Hinrich. Washington is bringing in new guys who are talented and have the right attitude to turn the franchise around. Ford put the Wizards at number two with an A level, solid choice.

[picappgallerysingle id="8358158"]

At least they can be a playoff team this season, not like the Pacers, who will not make it for at least two more seasons. However, the Bulls do have a better lineup with more depth and talent.

WHAT GRADE WOULD YOU GIVE THE BULLS AND HOW DO YOU RANK THEIR OFF-SEASON MOVES COMPARED TO OTHER EASTERN CONFERENCE TEAMS?

The Denver Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony has put in a trade requests. One of the top two places he would like to play at is…Chicago.

[picappgallerysingle id="8197741"]

Jerry Reinsdorf, Gar Forman or John Paxson, whoever is involved, MAKE THIS DEAL HAPPEN. If the Bulls front office wants the team to return to greatness, a deal for Carmello Anthony should be a simple decision like firing Vinny Del Negro was.

The Bulls have a few players they could get rid of to sign Melo. James Johnson will never be more than a seventh or eighth man off the bench, move him. Luol Deng is consistently a big number guy for the Bulls, but he fails in comparison to Anthony on every level: scoring, rebounding and helping his team play better. The only category Deng may be better is defense, but Melo picked his defensive game up last season and looked committed to advancing his skills.

Deng and Johnson wouldn’t be enough for the Nuggets to agree on a trade. Instead of adding in Taj Gibson, who is a great back up big man behind Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, put in a first round draft pick. The Bulls will not make the lottery this year, so they’ll have a pick in the late 20′s. Sometimes a team gets lucky, but for the most part the players who will be selected at this stage of the draft are role players, sometimes minimal role players. This means the Bulls would only give up Johnson, a role player who really didn’t prove anything as a rookie, a late first round draft pick who would be a player based only off of potential, and Deng, a legit starter.

[picappgallerysingle id="8576719"]

For Melo, sign the deal already. We are talking about one of the NBA’s elite scorers who brings it every night. He takes it to the hoop, he knocks down treys, he rebounds and he is great in the open court whether he is creating for himself or others. Maybe, I understated this, not great but fantastic. Melo is hands down one of the top five players in the league. Why wouldn’t the Bulls want to get him?

Everyone saw the determination the front office had in efforts to sign LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh this past year. Kirk Hinrich, John Salmons and Tyrus Thomas were traded for expiring contracts. Hinrich had been the heart and sole of the Bulls for at least the past five seasons, while Salmons and Thomas played key roles. Salmons was usually the second or third leading scorer and Thomas was the inside stopper. If the Bulls will trade away big pieces of the team for hope, why not trade two small pieces (Johnson and draft pick) and a equal piece ( Deng) to get Melo?

The Bulls gave the three of them up in hopes of signing one of the big three players. None of them came, but they picked up players needed to play well with Rose, Noah and Deng. If Melo comes, the starting lineup will look like this:Rose, Ronnie Brewer, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, while the back up list includes names such as Kyle Korver and Taj Gibson.

The Nuggets are going to lose the entire core of their team. Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin and Carmello Anthony are all in the market after this season. Instead of simply losing Melo, the Nuggets should trade him to Chicago in order to make sure they get something in return. If Melo hasn’t signed the three year $65 million contract extention the Nuggets offered a few months ago, he is not going to stay in Denver. This is the biggest offer he is going to see.

Once again Bulls front office, make this deal HAPPEN.

If Melo is in a Bulls jersey, the United Center is sold out every game, the team never falls under .500 and a deep run in the playoffs is a certainty. I’m not saying these things might take place, they will be a reality.

In June of 1998 the Chicago Bulls won their sixth championship of the decade and finished their second three-peat. A few months later, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, the icons who were the key elements of the dynasty were gone.

Since the 1998-1999 season, Chicago has seen a mass amount of players come and go. Some were drafted then traded to get a veteran who could help the team. The veteran retired after a season or two or moved on after failing to bring the bulls to a winning season. We all know how the roster played musical names in the early 2000′s.

Even though the team went through a long rebuilding period, there was still enough solid players to form a top ten, especially since the team has been to the playoffs five of the last six years.

This top 10 includes Bulls players from the 1998-1999 season to the 2009-2010 season. I would like to consider Carlos Boozer or Kyle Korver, but they haven’t played a game as a Bull. With this said, lets get to the Top 10 Bulls After Jordan and Pippen Left.

Honorable Mention: Eddy Curry, John Salmons, Tyson Chandler and if he would not have been on his motorcycle, Jay Williams.

10: JAMAL CRAWFORD 2000-2004

Crawford played with the Bulls for his first four years in the league. He battled Williams and other point guards for minutes, but he used his minutes to his advantage to market himself for other teams. During his final season as a Bull, 2003-2004, he averaged 17 points and five assists a game while leading all Bulls in points.

9: Brad Miller 2000-2002 and 2008-2010

[picappgallerysingle id="8506313"]

Miller has had two stints with the Bulls, both were for a season and a half. He brought much needed toughness and a soft scoring touch to the Bulls front court. In the playoffs two seasons ago, he hit a couple of big threes to extend the epic first round series against the Boston Celtics.

8: Ron Artest 1999-2002

[picappgallerysingle id="7391361"]

Before he was fighting in Detroit or winning championships with the Lakers, Artest was the backbone of the Chicago Bulls defense. He led the team in steals for three consecutive series.

7: Elton Brand 1999-2001

Brand only played for the Bulls two years, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. As a rookie, he led the Bulls with 20 points a game and 10 rebounds. To this day, he is the only big man Chicago could rely on for points in the paint.

6: Joakim Noah 2007-present

[picappgallerysingle id="7424962"]

Noah is the new version of Dennis Rodman. He devotes his body to getting rebounds and diving on the court for loose balls. He has led the team in boards two of his three seasons, second in his rookie season, and led the NBA for more than half of the 2009-2010 season as he averaged a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds a game.

5: Luol Deng 2004-present

[picappgallerysingle id="8550339"]

Deng has averaged double digits points per game in each of his six seasons as a Bull. He has also grabbed five or more rebounds a game including seven per contest in the 2009-2010 season. He has been the x-factor for the Bulls and a reliable second or third option during his entire stay.

4: Jalen Rose 2001-2004

Rose was the first star to play for the Bulls after Jordan and Pippen left. He had been in Reggie Miller’s shadow in Indiana for his entire career before he came to Chicago. In his two full seasons, he led the team with 23 and 22 points a game. He also averaged five assist and grabbed four rebounds a game.

3: Kirk Hinrich 2003-2010

[picappgallerysingle id="8550358"]

Hinrich is the longest tenure player since the post Jordan/Pippen era. He led the team in assists for five consecutive years and scored in the top four on the team for five years. During his stay in Chicago, he was the best perimeter defender on the team and one of the best shooters.

2: Ben Gordon 2004-2009

[picappgallerysingle id="4319315"]

Gordon led the Bulls in scoring in each of the five years he was on the team. He was the go to guy and the only premier shooter the Bulls have had. If he wasn’t on the team, the Bulls would have never pushed the Celtics two years ago, because he was the fire power matching up against Boston’s Ray Allen.

1: Derrick Rose 2008-present

[picappgallerysingle id="8603056"]

In two seasons, Rose has done more than any other Bull has since 1998. He won the rookie of the year award and was the first player from Chicago named to NBA all-star team since Jordan in 1998. Derrick is the first franchise player, someone they can build a team around, the Bulls have had in this time period. He doesn’t only put up stats and bring home awards but he is also the first sign of hope to returning the Bulls as an elite team in the NBA.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have found a home. Now everyone else is starting to put their John Hancock on the dotted line. The domino effect ESPN columnists and Dan Patrick have spoke about, is finally happening.

Rosters are starting to take shape, especially for the Chicago Bulls. They traded away Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons and Kirk Hinrich for expiring contracts that are now off the books and future draft picks. The Bulls are starting to build the roster and our only six days into the free agent signing period.

[picappgallerysingle id="4673490"]

Boozer and Korver are officially signed. Yesterday, the Bulls signed 7 ft center Omer Asik from Turkey. Asik was originally drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 2008, but was immediately traded to the Bulls. He has been developing for the past two years in Euroleague play. Chicago needs a big man who can defend a Dwight Howard or a Pau Gasol. Asik looks long and lengthy but is a great shot blocker. Maybe he will defend with intimidation as his best aspect; that’s what Ben Wallace did. Scouts seem to think he has solid NBA skills.

“Center seems to be his natural position as he loves playing with his back to the basket possessing a good assortment of moves to get his shot off … He is a tenacious rebounder going for the offensive boards as well as wiping the defensive glass.”

[picappgallerysingle id="5992817"]

This isn’t saying he will dominate, but he will add depth off the bench. The Bulls have been a team that relies on six to seven players, maybe Tom Thibodeau’s run as head coach will bring in a new era called use the bench.

In other NBA news:

Golden State gets forward David Lee
New York gets forward Anthony Randolph, forward Kelenna Azubuike, forward Ronny Turiaf and a 2010 second-round pick.

[picappgallerysingle id="7626776"]

Golden State wins the trade. Lee is a great rebounder and can put up 20 to 25 points any night. He is perfect for the run and gun tempo of the Don Nelson’s Warriors. New York got three so-so players. The second round pick will more than likely lead to the same type of player. Randolph is a solid player with upside but he isn’t going to develop into an all-star. He will be a great sixth man or a contributing role player. Warriors get an all-star and the Knicks get three similar players who will not amount to much.

Miami resigned forward Udonis Haslem.

[picappgallerysingle id="2880658"]

Haslem has been a blue collar player for the Heat since 2002, it only seems right to bring him back to attempt to win another championship. He is a big man who can step out and hit a jumper, rebound and defend in the low post. Heat owner Pat Riley would have been a fool not to bring him back.

Dallas gets center Tyson Chandler and center Alexis Ajinca
Charlotte gets center Erick Dampier, forward Eduardo Najera, guard Matt Carroll and cash considerations.

[picappgallerysingle id="8618196"]

Dallas wins this trade. Chandler is not offensively gifted but can rebound and block shots on a much higher level than Erick Dampier can. Oh, Dampier can’t shoot a penny in the ocean, Chandler is better in this category too.

Najera is on his last legs and Carroll isn’t an NBA talent. Dallas drops some salary to pick up players they could use, while Charlotte picks up veteran players who will not fit their system.

Derek Fisher stays with the Lakers.

Great move. Fisher kept the Lakers in the playoffs throughout every series. He is tough and the heart of the team.

Most of everything is rumors and hasn’t been set in contract yet.

The Atlanta Hawks are going to send Chris Childress to the Suns. The Suns are also going after Hedu Turkoglu. Childress has played over seas for the past few years, and has become a great player.

Al Jefferson will be a Denver Nugget.

J.J. Redick has been offered a deal from the Bulls but Orlando can keep him if they match the 3 year deal worth $20 million because he is a restricted free agent.

“Big Z”, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, will probably join the Miami Heat. He will follow LeBron, no dobut about it. They play well together and respect each other. They want to win a ring for each other.

Cavaliers have put an offer on the table for Kyle Lowry, but the Redick situation falls on Lowry as well. The Rockets have reportedly matched the contract.

I have no idea why, but the Timberwolves are going after Luke Ridnour. They have seven point guards and are trying to get another, no clue why.

On Thursday, I said the front office should be fired for not landing one of the big free agents: Chris Bosh, LeBron James or Dwyane Wade. I apologize to the Bulls and to readers for blogging with my heart on my shirt sleeve.

[picappgallerysingle id="9320041"]

The Bulls didn’t get one of the three big named free agents and the three players signing to another eastern conference team like the Miami Heat was discouraging but I have been awaken by the same people for the discouragement.

At first, the signing of Carlos Boozer didn’t seem like such a good move. He definitely wasn’t big enough bait for LeBron to come to Chicago and at times he has brittle bones. But, he when he is healthy, which is more than half of a season, he is a dependable 20 and 10 guy. Plus, he is an eight year veteran who can mentor Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson. Actually, Boozer is the eldest player on the Bulls; he can give tips to the entire team. Also, he has playoff experience past the first round. After personal debate, I am excited to see Boozer as a Bull.

[picappgallerysingle id="8743706"]Then the Bulls go back to the Utah Jazz roster and sign Kyle Korver. Korver is a three-point sniper the Bulls have been looking for. He isn’t a great defensive player, but he does have a true NBA small forward body making it harder for guys to get around him. He will fit in well with the Bulls up-tempo offense as well; he is athletic.

Reinsdorf has also offered Orlando Magic restricted free agent, J.J. Redick, a three year deal worth $20 million. He hasn’t proven himself as a great player, so the contract may be a little much. On the other hand, he has shown progress each of his four seasons in Orlando. Redick was the only offense the Magic had in a couple of the games against the Boston Celtics in the quarter finals of the playoffs. The Bulls offer is based on potential and the player he could become, it is worth it. He has shown he can play at the NBA level.

[picappgallerysingle id="8821742"]The Bulls are using their money wisely. They’re going after the kind of players the Bulls roster has been lacking. Chicago didn’t have an offensive threat in the low post or a reliable shooter. Now, Chicago has both and are trying to acquire another shooter.

I GIVE THE FRONT OFFICE CREDIT. They are making the best out of a situation that looked like doomsday. I would much rather have Boozer, Korver and Redick than the three guys that were traded for expiring contracts: Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons and Kirk Hinrich. Boozer is a man, Thomas is a little boy. Korver is a better three-point shooter than Salmons and is more reliable to hit shots. On the other Salmons plays better defense and unlike Korver, he can create his own shot.

I love Hinrich. The Bulls should have traded Luol Deng and kept Hinrich, but he did have an overpaid contract they wanted to get off of the books. Hinrich is the best backup point guard in the league. He is a premier perimeter defender, a superb assist man and can he shoot from anywhere on the court. The problem is, Rose is more valuable and when they traded Hinrich, so was LeBron, Wade or Bosh. Redick is bigger and is a more consistent shooter. Plus, he has younger legs and still has plenty of upside.

[picappgallerysingle id="8576747"]

The Bulls are putting together a team instead of relying on one superstar player to take the “team” to the next level. To win a championship in the NBA, the organization has to have a team, not one guy. It has been proven over and over again. LeBron didn’t win in Cleveland because he didn’t have a team around him and didn’t play with what he did have. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers win because they have role players who know what they have to do on the court. They perform their jobs well and let the Kobe Bryants, Paul Pierces, Pau Gasols and Kevin Garnetts of the world do what they do.

The Bulls are not at a championship level at the present time but they’re a better team than they were last year. The summer isn’t over and the Chicago Bulls still have the money to pick up whomever they wish.

Last week when Steve Kerr resigned as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns, because he wasn’t going to get rehired, I pondered the idea of Kerr coming back to Chicago to replace John Paxson as the Bull’s Vice President of Basketball Operations.

I asked the question to you, who would be a better for the Bulls, Kerr or Paxson. Kerr dominated Paxson, getting 36 of the 52 votes. I wonder if Kerr would beat Gar Forman, like he did Paxson.

Steve Kerr was a back up point guard for the Bulls in the mid-to late 90′s and helped win a few championships with his sniper three point shooting. Paxson did the same thing in the early 90′s.

[picappgallerysingle id="8936579"]Kerr’s Suns made it to the western conference finals this season, losing to the now NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in six games. He helped the Suns by building a roster around his two key players, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire. Kerr added athletic players who could run and gun, just like his two stars instead of different tempo and skill set guys.

He did make some questionable trades like Shawn Marion to the Miami Heat for Shaquille O’Neal, but he made up for it by getting a second round draf pick, Sasha Pavlovic who is a solid back up player, $500,000 and a soon to retire Ben Wallace when he traded O’Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

[picappgallerysingle id="1997911"]Paxson’s resume is okay. He hasn’t had a star, until Derrick Rose was gifted wrapped to him with a bow as the first overall pick in the 2008 draft. Last season, he traded inconsistent Andres Nocioni, overrated Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons to the Sacramento Kings for John Salmons, Brad Miller. The trade helped the Bulls get the 6th seed in the post season and in the epic first round series against the Boston Celtics. Both immediately fit well with the team, hitting key buckets when needed.

This season, he made room in the team’s payroll to sign one of the big name free agents this summer. Paxson traded away a bad character guy in Tyrus Thomas to the Charlotte Bobcats for two expiring contracts and a future first round pick. He then traded John Salmons and a couple of second round picks for two expiring contracts.

[picappgallerysingle id="8616832"]If Paxson can land Lebron, Wade, Bosh or if it’s financial possible for two of them, keep him. He has repeatedly made deals to get the Bulls to the playoffs. But if he can’t make THE deal, I would love to see Kerr in the Bulls front office. He turned the Suns into a winning team, he could do the same for Chicago.

For the past three or four weeks, Bullshome.com has listed the top ten free agent options for the Chicago Bulls. It has been fun. Many have complained about the choice for number one and number two, but I am sticking to my opinion. Since the countdown took so long to go through, it is only right for a recap.

10 Two Way Tie Between- Rudy Gay and John Salmons

[picappgallerysingle id="8367828"]

[picappgallerysingle id="8085306"]

Salmons was traded away by the Bulls at the February trade deadline in order to dump off contracts. He went to Milwaukee and helped them earn a six seed in the playoffs. Before he came they were on the outside looking in. Rudy Gay is a young talented player with limited leadership skills. Gay is on the verge of becoming a superstar but needs to play on a team besides the Memphis Grizzlies where he is the main attraction, because he shouldn’t be on any team. Both players are respectable second options and great role players.

9 Amare Stoudemire

[picappgallerysingle id="8952825"]

The Suns power forward has little defense but is absolute dynamite on offense. He can put up 30 points any night but if he is playing someone else who can score in the post, he can give up 30 points any night as well.

8 Joe Johnson

[picappgallerysingle id="8322067"]

He is one of the best shooters in the game now. He adds instant offense. The problem is he choked in the playoffs. His Atlanta Hawks got swept by the Orlando Magic and he put up little fight. Johnson showed lack of heart, lack of concern to the fans and a lack of being a go to guy.

7 Carlos Boozer

[picappgallerysingle id="8238876"]

Boozer is a double-double guy. He can easily get 10 rebounds and 15-to-20 against anybody. His defense is average but seems to always be in the right place at the right time for lose balls or blocks. What he lacks in stats compared to some of the others on the lists, he adds in leadership.

6 Dirk Nowitzki

[picappgallerysingle id="8628331"]

Dirk is a great player and possibly the best 7 foot shooter ever to grace the NBA. Again, he would add instant scoring and knows how to rebound the ball. He is in the last stage of his career, I give him five productive years. Also, he is a second option, not a number one. If he became a Bull, he would have to realize his position on the team.

5 Ray Allen

[picappgallerysingle id="450342"]

Allen is the second best three point shooter in history behind Reggie Miller. He would be great for the Bull’s offense because he never stops running. The downfall is, he will be 35 by the time next season starts.

4 Dwyane Wade

[picappgallerysingle id="8589452"]

He is the second best two guard in the league behind Kobe Bryant. I love Wade’s game and he brings the most energy to the court out of the ten guys on the court. He can do everything: score, defend and all the intangibles in the middle. He moved up the list because of his comments towards the Chicago Bulls. I don’t think there is any chance he will be a Bull.

3 David Lee-Brad Miller-and a shooter (Kyle Korver, JJ Redick, Mike Miller)

[picappgallerysingle id="7725073"]

Lee is a solid power forward. He can score down low, hit a 15 foot jumper and rebound. He plays solid help defense and again, is always around the basket for offensive rebounds. Brad Miller is old and for the most part washed up, but he has veteran leadership and in his old age still put up 10 points and five rebounds as a third stringer. The Bulls desperately need a shooter. Korver, Redick and Miller are the best shooters available. Chicago should combo the three together to make use of their money.

2 Lebron James

[picappgallerysingle id="7003022"]

James is the most athletic player in the league, no doubt about it. He puts up video game numbers every night and would bring an incredible level of excitement around the United Center. I will not be mad if James comes to the Bulls, that is for sure, but I think his superstardom could hurt the team. Derrick Rose is a great point guard all ready and could develop into one of the best to ever play for the Bulls. I question if the addition of James would hurt Rose’s development and the Chicago Bulls become the Chicago Lebrons. He is great, but he has never won a championship.

1 Chris Bosh

[picappgallerysingle id="7724326"]

From a team perspective, he is the best fit for the Bulls. We need low post scoring, experience and a second option. Bosh will give 20-to-22 points a night and could teach Joakiim Noah some post moves. He isn’t the best defender in the paint, but he is average, enough to get by in the NBA. His skill set is exactly what the Bulls need.

This will be the only tie during the ten part series. The tie is between the current Memphis Grizzly Rudy Gay who is a restricted free agency and ex-Bull and current Milwaukee Buck John Salmon who can get out of his contract with a player option.

[picappgallerysingle id="8467032"]

[picappgallerysingle id="8621278"]

It might sound silly to say Salmons since the Bulls just sent him to Milwaukee for expiring contracts on the trade deadline, but in Milwaukee he proved can be a scoring option. In Chicago, he was inconsistent. He goes to Milwaukee and turned their season around from not making the playoffs to gaining the sixth seed and scaring the Atlanta Hawks in the first round by forcing a seven game series.

[picappgallerysingle id="8621484"]

The Bucks did this without center Andrew Bogut, who was a legitimate top three or four center in the league. Rookie Brandon Jennings had something to do with the Bucks hot streak, but it was Salmon’s performances that had fans saying “Fear the Deer”.

I have said before, Salmons did the same thing to Chicago. In Sacramento he was inconsistent and not a main player for the Kings who had little to nothing with an injured Kevin Martin. He gets traded to the Bulls and shines at the end of the season, helping the Bulls make the playoffs and give the Boston Celtics a run for their money.

[picappgallerysingle id="4280787"]

This year, Chicago played the Sacramento role and Milwaukee took the place of Chicago.

If he can play at the level he has at the end of the last two seasons, for an entire season, he is worth taking him back. Salmons could be the two guard the Bulls had and now need to get back. Maybe they made a mistake by dealing him.

In his 30 games for the Bucks he averaged 20 ppg, shot 47% from the field and 87% from the free throw line. During his 51 games with the Bulls he averaged 13 ppg, shot 42% from the field and 79% from the line.

[picappgallerysingle id="8381038"]

An argument could be made about who is on the Bucks compared to the Bull’s top scores Rose and Deng. The Bucks have Bogut and Jennings. Jennings creates his own shot and Bogut is a serious inside scoring presence the Bulls don’t have. Noah’s name could be thrown in, but he scores off of hustle not set up plays.

Rudy Gay has plenty of potential. He has averaged 18 ppg, 6 rpg and is 45% from the field in his four seasons in the NBA. In these four seasons he has only missed 10 games; he can stay healthy.

[picappgallerysingle id="8523162"]

This season he was ranked third in the NBA in minutes played, 13th in total steals, 15th in field goals made, , 16th in total points and 18th in ppg.

Gay can take it outside, a career 35% three-point shooter, or can cut through the lane and throw it down. Gay isn’t automatic from 3, but can hit when he is on. His dashing to the basket skills can be compared to Desmond Mason and Darius Miles when they were in their prime.

[picappgallerysingle id="8523233"]

The problem with picking up Gay is, he isn’t proven. As a player, he has never been to the post season. He can’t be held to full blame because of the Memphis roster, but he is a team captain and is looked to help this team get better.

They do have an up and coming star center in Marc Gasol, guard O.J. Mayo and all-star forward in Zach Randolf. Gay is the all around most talented (Randolf is one of the best interior scorers in the league) on the team, but he hasn’t been a leader.

[picappgallerysingle id="8367830"]

The Bulls need a leader. Rose and Hinrich try, but they’re not strong leaders. Deng doesn’t talk or play dedicated like a leader. Joakim Noah’s play (like Rose) could define him as a leader of the team, but it doesn’t always work.

Maybe the Bulls need a player with a voice, unfortunately, Kevin Garnett isn’t up for grabs.

Also, Gay’s play is similar to Deng. Gay has a better jump shot but all in all, they play similar styles. This could cause a problem with the starting line up or could help the team by having a strong scorer come off the bench.

The question is, who would come off the bench? I’d go with Deng. Have Rudy start and then interchange them throughout games in the two and three spots. The Bulls would then have some length.

[picappgallerysingle id="8367710"]

The reason this is a tie, is because Gay and Salmons are good at what they do, which is opposite of each other.

Salmons is a shooter, Gay is more of an inside banger who occasionally shoots outside. Gay is a better defender and Salmons is better at running offensive sets.

Gay is a better re-bounder, probably because of size and Salmons is a better set up man, probably because of his better ball handling skills.

Money wise, Salmons is making $5 mill this year and Gay $3 mill. Both have another possible year on their current contracts offering each another million.

If the Bulls picked one of these guys up, they could still shop for other prominent pieces like true shooters in Kyle Korver, Mike Miller or J.J. Redick. If the Bulls want to continue to build defense, Ronnie Brewer is available.

Number ten is a tie between John Salmons and Rudy Gay. Between these two players, would you rather have Gay come from Memphis or Salmons come back to Chicago?

This is a little late. The playoffs came fast and quick. The Bulls had so much commotion going on with fighting to get into the playoffs, Vinny Del Negro and John Paxson fighting and Noah blasting Cleveland and Kevin Garnett. Well, this is as good a time as any for my playoff picks.

EAST

Cleveland Cavaliers VS Chicago Bulls- Cavs in 5

I would love for the Bulls to win more than one game or even take the series, but it will not happen. Lebron James is just too much for the Bulls to handle. The Bulls played a great game, but still lost game 2. Enough said, I’m going to pout in silence…..

[picappgallerysingle id="8576749"]

Boston Celtics VS Miami Heat (three old men VS a young superstar)- Boston Celtics (old men) 4-3

This is going to be a great series. Dwayne Wade is a superstar and will win one or two games by himself. If he gets any help at all they will win one more and could possibly take the series. Kevin Garnett is not the same KG we know and love, plus he is out for game two because of his elbow. The Boston Celtics have a champion swagger. Paul Pierce will not give up for anybody and Rajon Rondo has become a great basketball player. I think the Celtics have too much for Wade to win the series.

[picappgallerysingle id="8552900"]

Atlanta Hawks VS Milwaukee Bucks- Hawks sweep

Atlanta has a balanced scoring attack. They have perimeter shooters in Mike Bibby and Jamal Crawford. They have physical players who will take it inside Josh Smith and Marvin Williams. Plus, they have the most underrated player in the NBA, Joe Johnson. He can shoot, defend, rebound and is a good teammate. Andrew Bogut is out for the Bucks. With him in the lineup the Bucks could have won a few games, but not without him. John Salmons and Brandon Jennings won’t give the team enough to get them past the Hawks.

[picappgallerysingle id="8499442"]

Orlando Magic VS Charlotte Bobcats- Magic sweep

Dwight Howard is a beast. Charlotte’s Tyson Chandler is not going to contain Howard. The Magic are the best three point shooting team in the history of the NBA. Enough said.

[picappgallerysingle id="8471975"]

WEST

LA Lakers VS Oklahoma City Thunder- Lakers in 6

Kobe or Ron Artest against Kevin Durant is the best one-on-one match-up in the first round. Kobe is a solid defender and Artest is one of the best in the game. Durant is the best scorer in the game. This should be fun to watch. The Lakers are just too good. They have a great veteran team who are going to teach the young Thunder lessons. The Thunder are a good team and will find enough scoring to get a couple games, but Kobe and company will win the series.

[picappgallerysingle id="8567534"]

Denver Nuggets VS Utah Jazz- Nuggets in 6

The Jazz are banged up. The Nuggets have something to prove. They were at one time the number two seed in the west but fell to fourth after a bad stretch of loses. Kenyon Martin is back to add physical inside play. The Nuggets will miss George Karl but they will find a way to win the series in six games.

[picappgallerysingle id="8042532"]

Phoenix Suns VS Portland Trailblazers- Suns in 6

I wanted to give the series to Portland, but, I can’t do it with Brandon Roy on the IR. Roy is the difference maker. Portland has a good team, but I think Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash will take care of business.

Dallas Mavericks VS San Antonio Spurs- Dallas in 5

The boring Spurs are done. They can’t stay healthy and Tim Duncan is not even a shell of his former self. Dallas is rolling. Dirk is playing at an MVP level and Jason Kidd is playing like he is 24 instead of 37. Kidd is still the best passer in the game and can add 15-to-20 points any given night. Plus, Caron Butler and Brendan Hayword have come from Washington and added key pieces the Mavericks were missing.

[picappgallerysingle id="8479149"]
