The Number One Option for the Bulls is…
I have been saying for two years, the Bulls number one option in the 2010 free agency is Chris Bosh. When they selected Derrick Rose with the first pick in the 2008 draft, I was pleased, because I know Rose and Bosh would play perfect together.
This past year Joakim Noah became a defensive and rebounding machine. Another perfect reason why the Bulls should get Bosh. Bosh and Noah are almost the complete opposite.
Bosh is an absolute go to man offensively. He has a fully developed low post game and can step out and hit a 15 foot jumper. Bosh plays decent defense, but could get better in a system set up by Tom Thibodeau.
A sunny spot on offense is a black hole on defense
There are many big men in the NBA that can not score with a mid range jump shot, let alone, around the rim. Usually, they’re all defense, except for a couple of physically dominant players like Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard or have an onslaught of inside post moves like Patrick Ewing, Tim Duncan or Pau Gasol. All of these players can or could play defense too.
The ninth selection in the Bulls top 10 summer free agent options is a go to low post offensive player but can’t play defense at all.
The way the Cookie Crumbles
Erin Redmond from larrybrownsports.com took a stab at the Bull’s record and their chance of making the playoffs. He blames the playoff system and doesn’t see why the Bulls should be in the post season with a “crappy” record. I think we need to quit blaming systems and realize this is how the cookie crumbles.
I agree the Bulls fell apart in the second half of the season. Trades, injuries and a head coach who should have never got the job justify their losing ways. Joakim Noah was hurt for almost two months, Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng have all missed games. John Salmons, one of the Bulls top scorers, was traded; same as a key defensive player in Tyrus Thomas. Enough said, I get Redmond’s point.
Suns want Iguodala but would settle for Deng
The Phoenix Suns and there struggle to get value for Amare Stoudemire will never end. The Suns were reported to be after Philadelphia 76er Andre Iguodala. The 76ers turned them down, so now they are thinking Luol Deng.
I give the Sun’s general manager and former Bull Steve Kerr, a lot of credit. Deng would probably be a good fit for the Suns, but it would be a horrible deal for the Bulls. I said yesterday, getting Stoudemire would not be a good idea, especially if it involves Deng.
Deng puts up 18 points a game all over the court. He can spot up for the three, drive in the lane and create his own shot. The Bulls need to keep him. Plus, he is a solid defender and can play as a shooting guard or power forward when need be.
Trade Thomas if you wish. I hate to see Hinrich go, but his 17 million over the next two years is reason enough to trade him. Salmons is streaky and not a good defender, so trade him if you wish. Do not trade Deng.
Deng would become like Ron Artest, Elton Brand and a younger Brad Miller. We had them when they were young, traded them away and they became studs. Deng has already developed into a decent player, do not give away his youth for Stoudemire’s often injured body.
The 2000-2009 Running of the Chicago Bulls
The decade began with the Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf trying to replace the championship roster he had in the 90′s. We know the story. Michael Jordan retired, then un-retired for a year or two for a season with the Washington Wizzards . Phil Jackson left for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he three-peats to start the decade. Scottie Pippen was traded to the Houston Rockets and Dennis Rodman went completely over the edge.
