Introduction to the Top 10 Summer Free Agent Options for the Chicago Bulls
The next 10 posts are going to be the Bulls Home rundown of the top free agent options for the Chicago Bulls.
Chicago has six players on the books for next season: Luol Deng, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, Kirk Hinrich and James Johnson. They are allowed to have 15, so there is room for nine more players.
The NBA projects next year’s salary cap to be $56.1 million. Chicago only has $33.6 million spent, meaning they have $22.5 mill to go shopping with.
Chicago’s IR list emptying
The second half of the season has been horrific for everybody in the Chicago Bull’s locker room. Players have battled the flu and nagging injuries. The athletic trainers and doctors have definitely made their salary for the year. Yeah, somebody in Illinois has to.
After this weekend, health problems could be a thing of the past; cross your fingers or knock on wood.
Against the Phoenix Suns Tuesday night, Kirk Hinrich suffered an ankle sprain after landing on Joakim Noah’s foot. X-rays came back to show it was nothing serious. The Bulls hope to have him back in the lineup for Friday against Washington.
Deal #2- Thomas to Bobcats
Tyrus Thomas and the Chicago Bulls got their wish the day of tradeline when Thomas was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats for a first round draft pick, Acie Law and Flip Murray. In the past few weeks, Thomas has reportedly argued with head coach Vinny Del Negro. His main argument was his minutes on the court. Thomas has had decent amount of pt at times and at other times he is hardly played. This has happened throughout three different coaches in his three and a half seasons with the Bulls. (more…)
Deal # 1: Salmons traded to the Bucks
John Salmons is no longer a Bull. He is now a Milwaukee Buck. The central division rivals, Bulls and the Bucks were able to negiotiate a trade with Chicago sending Salmons and recieving Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander.
This was not the first trade reported. The first announced trade was Salmons for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson. According to the Bucks, a Warrick deal with another team fell threw so they swapped players with similar contracts.
Rose takes name out of skills competition
Earlier today, Chicago Bull Derrick Rose let it be known he was not going to participate in today’s All Star Skills Challenge. Rose injured his hip in a game against the Magic on Wednesday.
While Rose was in the air, he smashed into Dwight Howard. Rose fell to the court hard awkwardly landed on his hip. He came out of the game and didn’t return. X-Rays came back negitive.
Rose won the skills event last year during his rookie year and expected to defend his crown. Taking his name out of the skills challenge shouldn’t really bother anyone. As a Bull’s fan, of course you want to see your team’s players in these special activities but it would be better to see him healthy next week helping Chicago get and stay above .500.
Although, Rose stated he will not be in the skills competition, he will play in his first All Star game Sunday. This is a good move. Sure, he could get injured in both events but he doesn’t have to involve himself 100% in the big game. He can chill at the perimeter and dish out alleyoops to the multiple leapers on the Eastern Conference squad.
The skills challenge means he has to sprint and use all his leg muscles at full strength to try to beat his opponents. All Star game play, skills challenge sit out; GREAT IDEA.
Russel Westbrook will be Rose’s replacement. This is a great substitution. Westbrook is averaging 16 points and 7.5 assists a game. Last night, he dropped 40 points in a dominating performance at the Rookie-Sophomore game.
