Could it happen???

Trade rumors are exactly what they say they are; Rumors about trades.  For the most part, fans know what trades are reasonable and which ones are not.  The most recent one is unbelievable but in some crazy NBA contract hoopla, could possibly happen.

The past month or so there has been talk of Lebron James and Chris Bosh wanting to be a package deal.  Dwayne Wade has been mentioned as part of a trio trade deal, but not as much as the duo.  At the end of the season, James will be a free agent from his contract with Cleveland and Toronto will lose Bosh to free agency.  Both of the talents are looking for the right roster and environment to win a championship.

Why not Chicago?  Recently on his podcast, ESPN’s Bill Simmons also known as the “The Sports Guy”  said Chicago would be the best place for this to happen.  Simmons said what we all know,  Lebron just wants to win championships.  He hasn’t played with any All Star besides Mo Williams.  Williams was only selected because he  was on James team.  Simmons has a great point.

Chicago would be perfect.  The owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, has the money.  A couple contracts would have to be dropped.  Kirk Hinrich has been a decent player but he is not worth 9.5 million.  Drop him and Rose could have full control of the point guard spot.  Brad Miller’s contract is 12.5 million.  Again,  good Bull, but not worth his contract.  Jerome James, who hasn’t played a game all year, is definitely not worth 6.6 million.   A few more little contracts like James Johnson or Lindsey Hunter may need to be dropped but the return of James and Bosh would be worth it.

Think of next year’s starting lineup with the superstar additions; Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, James, Bosh and Joakim Noah.  Three 2010 All Stars, Deng is a solid all around player and Noah is the 2nd leading re-bounder in the league.  Deng usually plays in the small forward position, but I think James and him would be interchangeable and work it out.  Noah and Bosh would be a monster front court.  Bosh is an offensive forward and Noah is defense and hustle; Best of both worlds.

The Bulls 2nd team would be strong also.  John Salmons, Taj Gibson, Tyrus Thomas, Jannero Pargo and Devin Brown would come off the bench.  Salmons can score. Thomas can defend and rebound and Gibson, with some development, will do all three.  The back up guards may need to be upgraded but honestly how many minutes would Rose and Deng/James really sit on the bench?

Broken high hopes defines a Chicago Bull’s fan for the past 12 years, so we should not let them get to high.  On the other hand,  the possibility becoming truth would mean an entire different Bull’s basketball culture.  James and Bosh like where they are at but both like the fame and endorsement money.  There are only two markets bigger than Chicago.  New York is career suicide and Los Angeles already has their king.

If James didn’t come with Bosh or situation reversed, they would still have talent around them.  Bulls have a gold mind of solid role players.  Chicago needs a star.  Rose is one, but most championship teams need two at least and most have three.  Bosh and James are not only stars,  they are superstars.  They are two of the top ten players in the game.

With all of this said, Simmons is a smart man. Chicago would be the perfect destination for the complete package.
