Breaking News: Doug Collins to be named head coach
Reports out of Chicago are that Doug Collins will make a return to the Bulls as the new head coach. Collins last coached for the Washington Wizards from 2001-02. In each season with the Wizards the team finished 37-45, failing to make the post-season in each season. Overall, Collins has 8 years coaching experience in the NBA, 3 with Chicago, 3 with Detroit and the 2 with the Wizards.
Besides the two years in Washington, his teams have preformed pretty well. His teams finished with four winning season out of six. Collins has a career .536 winning percentage during the regular season, but his teams have not always performed well in the post-season. He has a 15-23 post season record.
This may be a good fit for the young team, just as it was when he took over the Bulls in Jordans’ earlier years.
Should Paxson have tried coaching?
The Chicago Bulls are still with out a head coach. They missed out on Mike D’antonio, or should I say, he missed out on the Bulls. Avery Johnson was thought to be the back-up plan, but then he wasn’t really interested. Then they won the draft lottery, and Johnson was re-interested. The Bulls are a young core of players who all were pretty good in college and where top draft picks. They all seem to have a good amount of potential still. Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah and Tabo Sefolosha where all top picks and all have played 5 years or less in the NBA. This year they will add to the roster of young athletes. With the number one overall pick in the draft, they will be able to grab the best college basketball player. (more…)
Joakim Noah facing marijuana charge
Early Sunday morning, Chicago Bulls power forward Joakim Noah was arrested on marjiuana charges. The Chicago Tribune reported that police officers arrested Noah for having a clear plastic cup of alcohol. After being taken to the station, officers found a pack of ciggarettes in his pocket with one cannibas cigarette.
The Tribune was not able to reach Noah, but a Bulls team spokesman said general manager John Paxson would reserve further comment until more details were known. Noah is due to appear in court in June.
Scenarios if the Bulls draft Derrick Rose
The Chicago Bulls most likely going to receive plenty of phone calls from other teams regarding the number one pick, as well as some of their guards if they decide to go with Derrick Rose. If Rose is the right choice for the number one pick, and the Bulls decide they need to trade away some other guards here are a few things that may happen:
- Full House: The Bulls will have a plethora of gaurds and will want to move someone. After getting Larry Hughes in a trade with Cleveland in February, sharing minutes between Krik Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Hughes, and Tabo Sefolosha didn’t work well for either player. Sefolosha’s potential will make him an unlikely trade option, and Gordon’s jumper being the best of the team will make it hard to part ways with him. Hinrich and Hughes are left with huge contracts, which could make them are to deal though. Hinrich is owed $36.5 million over four years and Hughes is due $26.5 million over two years. Chris Duhon is an unrestricted free-agent and is unlikely to return.
Four possible moves with the number 1 pick
The Chicago Bulls have a lot of power with the number one overall pick. Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley are the favorites to be drafted first and second overall and many teams will be interested in moving up to draft one of these players. If the Bulls elect to keep the pick though, there is the chance that others will be traded to make room for one of these guys. The Bulls have several other young big guys, but none are believed to be as good as Beasley. The same goes for point guards if Rose is drafted. So here are four possibilities that could unfold.
